Course Description

Untangle the story of Marie Antoinette, one of history’s most infamous characters, through the paintings, furniture, and decorative arts that created a sumptuous atmosphere of grandeur around the tragic queen and her court at the Palace of Versailles. Our study and discussion of these objects will shed light on the political climate of 18th-century France, the forces that led to the French Revolution, and the long-lasting influence that Marie Antoinette continued to have on art and design.
